(pp. 155-156) Moreover, as the author continues to state, "given the central positioning of the InterPARES project, the standards it sets will provide the high level criteria that will inform future debate about appraisal standards." (p. 156) See also footnote 5, which discusses the five explicit questions to be addressed in the Project's research with respect to the issue of "Appraisal criteria and Methods of Selection of Authentic Electronic Records." [This newsletter article, from the Archivist of the United States, John Carlin, reports on a new interagency agreement between NARA and the National Science Foundation (NSF) "that will give impetus to research-and-development work on the creation of an Electronic Records Archives." Carlin further notes that NARA currently is "collaborating on a parallel and complimentary track with other archivists in the interPARES project . . . This project is is identifying fundamental requirements for preserving electronic records with authenticity and reliality across generations of information technology. . . . For a long time, many of us have been searching for ways to meet the challenges posed by electronic records. Now, through our work with the San Diego Supercomputer Center, through our new agreement to collaborated with NSF in moving that work forward, and through the InterPARES project, I feel optimistic that the challenges can be met. These developments are exciting, and of potential value to archivists everywhere." (p. 18)]
